Sunday School & Sunday Morning Education

Our Approach:

St. Martin's approach to Christian Education is based upon our understanding of the nature of the promises we make during the Baptismal Liturgies and the renewal of our own vows when we witness a Baptism.

We are currently using a mix of the curriculum called "Akaloo <http://www.akaloo.org/> " produced by Augsburg/Fortress and activities and lessons generated from the children's current needs and interests. Classes and activities for youngsters 2 years old through high school are provided on Sunday mornings beginning at 9:15AM. The Sunday School staff and students join the congregation at worship at the end of Parish Announcements following the Exchange of the Peace.

The "Akaloo" program includes materials designed for Adult Education as well as additional information, games, and music for all age groups on line. Each family can access the material at their convenience through the congregation's subscription.

Our Resources and Experience:

In addition to the "Akaloo" curriculum, our Sunday School program draws on a wide range of resources including the personal expertise of our Sunday School teachers, including several active and retired teachers. At times, a program of study begun by one group will become a topic addressed throughout the congregation. For example, a Sunday School program about the Saints led to a dress up "procession" on All Saints Day, including both youngsters and adults. Following this activity, youngsters gave oral presentations concerning specific saints throughout the year during the service on Sunday morning.

The Children's Annual Ministry:

Every year, the children in the Sunday School choose a ministry that has special meaning to them and lead the congregation in carrying it out. In the past, the children have chosen to raise money to aid Heifer International, collect soda tabs for Ronald McDonald houses, create shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, and to hold a free carnival for local youngsters in need.

We invite you and your family to join us on Sunday mornings to celebrate children, one of God's greatest gifts.
